A new doctor is coming to Wiarton.
Dr. Cathy Hanley will take over some of the duties from Dr. Van Dorp including the patient roster at Gateway Haven Long-Term Care home, and she will also help with inpatient care at the hospital.
A committee called Sauble and Wiarton MD Quest has been working to recruit physicians to the area.
A staff report says, the Town, as it has in the past, has offered a physician recruitment incentive that helps with the expense of setting up a practice.
An agreement will pay Hanley $36,000 over two years, plus a $4,000 moving allowance.
It’s a four-year agreement.
South Bruce Peninsula CAO Bill Jones says, “This will help take the pressure off the other doctors.”
Hanley is due to start July 2nd.
Councillor Kathy Durst thanked the Sauble and Wiarton MD Quest committee for their work in helping to bring a new doctor to town, noting, “I know that the community, as all communities are eagerly awaiting the presence of new family physicians. The committee has been innovative and creative and has worked very hard to make this happen and I think we all need to be very grateful for that work,” said Durst.
