Two people suffered injuries following a collision between a car and a moose in Algonquin Park.
Killaloe OPP were called to the collision just after 1 a.m. yesterday at Highway 60 near Tea Lake. After the vehicle struck the moose, it then went off the roadway and hit a tree.
The critically injured person, a 40-year-old woman was transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre. The other occupant of the vehicle, a 45-year-old man, was taken to local hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the two Muskoka Paramedic Service ambulances responding to the crash also hit a moose, but nobody was injured in that collision.
Highway 60 had to be closed for a period of time while the initial investigation was taking place.
Police officers who had responded to this call had just finished investigating a different collision where a vehicle collided with a moose, but there were no serious injuries.
The OPP is warning motorists that moose are leaving the forest and walking on roadways to escape from swarms of insects.
