Saugeen Shores and the Society of United Professionals Bruce Power local has launched a Life Jacket Loaner Program
The Town says in a release, starting this weekend, life jackets, ranging in size from kids to Adult (XL), will be available to borrow for free at the Port Elgin Main Beach.
A $2,500 donation from from the Society of United Professionals Bruce Power Local made it possible.
The Town will evaluate the program at the end of the season to determine the possibility of its expansion to other beaches.
The Town says wearing a life jacket can prevent 90 per cent of boating-related drownings, and they note, most people who drown are within 15 metres of safety.
