Organizers are gearing up for two local Walks for Alzheimer’s happening later this month.
The Bracebridge Walk happens May 25th in Memorial Park and the Huntsville Walk happens in River Mill Park on May 26th.
Pam Leeder, Interim Executive Director of the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka reminds that the society services all of Muskoka and Parry Sound and that the walks raise funds for their much-needed local services and support:
Last year over 100 people took part in the events and there were lots of others who helped cheered them on and volunteered their time. So far this year there are 65 registered participants so you are encouraged to sign up now and help with these fundraising efforts.
Over $76,000 was raised last year and Leeder says this year the goal is $95,000 – Forty percent of the Society’s local operating costs come from fundraising so the two annual events are really important in this regard.
This year’s Huntsville Walk will also be the first in-person walk there since the pandemic and organizers are hoping to see lots of people take part.
Leeder says the Huntsville location has also changed and is now in the downtown at River Mill Park, connecting further with local businesses and the community.
