Over 200 ball hockey players gathered in downtown Owen Sound over the weekend for a fundraising event.
Brightshores Hospital Foundation CEO Amy McKinnon says the event on Saturday drew a large crowd for the event in support of the local hospital.
“We were super excited to bring a celebration of ball hockey tournament to downtown, where we could highlight our downtown community and to raise money for the hospital,” says McKinnon.
She says while it’s still too early to tell how much the foundation raised over the weekend, the funds will go to support the highest priorities of the hospital.
“We think the event went really well, we heard from all the players that they had a great time coming down and playing on the streets, what a unique opportunity,” says McKinnon.
The money raised from the registration fees allowed the participating 36 teams to each play three games.
She hopes to have this event again, but reiterated it is still too soon to tell as they continue to gather feedback.
The foundation partnered with HockeyFest, which organizes street and pond hockey tournaments, to bring this event to Owen Sound.
