A stretch of Alpha Street in Owen Sound is closing Monday morning as a major construction project gets underway.
City staff advise Alpha Street between 6th and 9th Avenues West is closed as of 6 a.m. today and won’t reopen until construction is completed, which is expected to be in December.
The $5.25-million job includes the replacement of underground municipal infrastructure, a new active transportation route and some landscaping.
Detour signage is in place to help drivers navigate around the construction zone.
Owen Sound transit routes and bus stops have already been altered for the Alpha Street reconstruction project. A city advisory says any school transit inquiries should be directed to the Grey Bruce Student Transportation Consortium.
