Meaford is seeing an increase in building permit applications during the first quarter of this year compared to 2023.
Council reviewed a development services report from the first quarter of 2024 during a meeting on April 29, which highlights various activities taken over the last three months, including building permits, economic development, municipal enforcement, and planning.
The report shows 31 total building permit applications, surpassing the 23 in 2023. While the number of new homes is down to four from six, there were 13 renovations and additions, six sewage system permits, one for agricultural, and one commercial.
Municipal enforcement files saw a decrease in the first quarter of this year over 2023, with 116 files from the 129 the year before. The majority of the enforcement division’s activities came from animal control, parking tickets and property standards.
In addition, the report also highlights some department-wide projects to improve service to the community.
These projects include updating the municipal website, completing the launch of Main Street Meaford as a non-profit organization, and updating by-laws.
