Bruce County Council is supporting staff for continuing advocacy efforts that would meet the needs of the region.
During Thursday’s council meeting, a report was presented that outlined different topics that have ongoing government relations efforts.
These include continuing to engage with local members of the provincial parliament.
A topic where efforts are still being focused is broadband internet, as access to high-speed internet is essential for community success.
Councillor Luke Charbonneau said that the efforts should go beyond simply asking the province for high-speed internet access, and drive to have complete coverage that is usable by everyone. He mentioned that the Township of Saugeen is only going to end up with wireless access.
“Which I think is… not sufficient. My own view is that there should be buried fibre for those communities. So we in Saugeen Shores are doing some advocacy on that front.”
The County’s Government Relations Director, Aaron Stauch says that they want to talk about where there are gaps between what the province has promised compared to what is delivered.
“These projects have rolled out, but they haven’t exactly delivered the promised speeds or access or those kinds of pieces… getting crystal clear on that and being able to advocate for those areas of gaps to be filled across the county.”
