Hanover police have charged a man with resisting and obstructing an officer and a list of driving offences after a traffic stop.
Police say on Tuesday, (April 16) at about 11:30 p.m., they responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on 10th Street in Hanover.
They say they located the vehicle in a drive-thru of a restaurant and initiated a traffic stop.
Police allege the 24-year-old Hanover man driving the vehicle refused to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, resisted arrest and hit an officer in the face while attempting to run away.
The suspect was apprehended after a brief foot chase.
Police say they seized a small quantity of methamphetamine along with open alcohol from the vehicle.
They add, further investigation determined the suspect was prohibited from driving for a previous impaired driving conviction in 2022 and suspended under the Highway Traffic Act.
The man is charged with a number of offences including possession of meth, fail to comply with a demand, resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, driving while prohibited, assault with intent to resist arrest, failing to surrender insurance card, failing to display two plates, having open liquor in the vehicle and driving while suspended.
