Georgian Bluffs wants a better idea about which roads are its busiest, and how many vehicles are driving on them.
Township council approved recommendation at its meeting Wednesday to award a $51,000 contract to company Traffic Survey Analysis to provide traffic count services.
A report from Georgian Bluffs manager of engineering Kevin Verkindt says the township operates about 400 kilometres of roads — gravel and paved surfaces — but has not historically completed a traffic count program to help determine growth rates and traffic patterns.
“This firm will be completing various traffic studies in the spring, summer and fall. Hopefully we can get them out there at the end of April,” Verkindt told councillors. “What they’ll be doing is taking traffic counts. And that will help staff determine the average annual daily traffic movements, where we can better analyze our road networks and levels of service.”
Verkindt says the traffic data will provide township staff a better understanding for future budgets and road works in Georgian Bluffs.
