County Council has approved a delegation of authority to staff to allow for the execution of government agreements that have tight deadlines.
Director of Legislative Services and County Clerk Susan Cronin says that the move would allow for staff to enter into agreements without needing council’s approval.
These agreements include funding that might come from either the provincial or federal governments, but have deadlines that would be before the next council meeting.
With that autonomy, staff could pursue grant funding that could otherwise be missed because of scheduling, and to ensure that the county is getting more opportunities.
Recently, there have been numerous requests from the provincial and/or federal levels of government where the deadlines could not be met to receive approval from Council to execute contracts or agreements, or the extension of such agreements.
