Arran-Elderslie council has approved a new roof for the Chesley Community Centre and Curling Club.
Council accepted a proposal from Clarence H. Graham Design & Construction Ltd. for the roughly $674,000 job.
A staff report says a 2019 assessment determined the roof was at the end of its lifespan, and the curling club has expressed concern about leaks in the roof over the curling ice surface.
Town staff say they’ve secured a $274,000 grant through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Fund to put towards the work which would start this spring and be completed by winter. The curling club also plans to contribute to the work.
Regular programming at the community centre is not expected to be disrupted by the work. The new roof will cover 35,383 square feet, and is expected to last 50 years.
