Bruce County is going to look at a request from the province to hold off updating its Housing and Homelessness Plan.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) is requesting the county pause updating its plan until it hears from the ministry.
This comes as the Housing Services Act requires service managers, like Bruce County, to review its local housing and homelessness plans at least once every five years and update every 10 years.
A report from Director of Human Services Tina Metcalfe says, “MMAH is reviewing the current policy direction that is intended to guide the plans to ensure alignment with current government priorities. Therefore, MMAH is requesting service managers wait to review and update the local plans.”
Bruce County staff started the process of reviewing the local plan late last year and community engagement sessions have been held.
Staff have even crafted a draft plan for review.
“Based on the request from the ministry, staff will wait for further instructions before presenting a final plan,” says the report.
No timeline for when staff might be able to continue with the update was included in the report.
Council will review the MMAH’s request during its meeting on April 4 at 9:30 a.m.
