Some road projects are planned for this year in Grey County.
Committee of the Whole recently supported a number of staff recommendations to award tenders for the work.
It includes $4.2 million in work on Grey Road 40, near Clarksburg in the Town of the Blue Mountains. It would be done by Cox Construction Limited between Grey Road 7 and Grey Road 13. It would be about 8 km of road reconstruction and paved shoulders. It would be done with intermittent lane closures between May and September. There will also be some paving included in that job at the Clarksburg public works depot.
It’s recommended the roughly $4.8 (under budget by nearly $1 million) million project on Grey Roads 9 in the area of Hopeville and 14 be awarded to E.C. King contracting. Work includes reconstructing just under 4 km of Grey Road 9 and about 9 km on Grey Road 14. They’ll have 1.25 m paved shoulders as well. It will be mostly open through alternating lane closures. That work is set to take place between May and July.
There’s a $1.9 million project for Grey Road 13 which would include the reconstruction of 1.3 km of road with paved shoulders. Work is expected to take place between July and September. That project is under budget by about $280,000.
A roughly $2.8 million contract is set to be awarded to Rubos Farm Service. It will include a new single lane roundabout at the intersection of Grey Road 3 and Grey Road 4 in the Municipality of West Grey. About $1.5 million for the work is from federal and provincial grant money.
A staff report says. “The project will address safety concerns with the intersection of Grey Road 3 and Grey Road 4, as roundabouts have been proven to reduce both the frequency and severity of collisions at an intersection.”
Work is expected to take place between May and October.
The recommendations will come to council for formal approval at the next council meeting.
