The Neyaashiinigmiing Police Service has charged two more people following an investigation regarding an incident on January 6th.
Police have charged a 65-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman with indignity to a human body after an incident at a residence on the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
According to multiple Facebook posts from the First Nation obtained by Bayshore News, the investigation stems from the unauthorized cremation of an Elder’s remains, which goes against traditional burial practices.
The two accused will appear in an Owen Sound court on March 28th.
Previously, a 56-year-old man was charged for the same incident, as well as fraud under $5,000.
According to the Grey Bruce OPP, there are no further anticipated arrests, but they do encourage anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
