A 31-year-old man caught sleeping at the wheel is now facing a list of drug trafficking and firearms offences in a significant drug bust by Grey Bruce OPP.
The OPP say they were called to a suspicious person report just after 3 a.m. early Wednesday morning after someone spotted a vehicle on its seasonal property through video surveillance.
The vehicle was parked in the laneway of the property on Davidson Drive in Sauble Beach.
Grey Bruce OPP officers attended and found someone asleep in the driver’s seat of an idling car. The police officers woke the driver up, and allege they noticed signs of impairment.
“The driver was arrested and transported to the Saugeen Shores Police detachment for further tests by a Drug Recognition Expert,” the OPP says in a media release.
Provincial Police say they seized a large amount of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine during a search of the suspect’s vehicle. The estimated street value of the illegal narcotics is around $70,000. OPP officers also found a firearm and “a significant amount of cash.”
The 31-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with more than 25 criminal offences, including possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
