If you are planning a viewing of the solar eclipse on April 8th, Huron Perth Public Health wants to ensure you do it safely.
Schools boards around Ontario, including those in Huron and Perth counties, have moved a PD Day in late April to coincide with the eclipse, and protect eye safety of students and staff.
HPPH says not to look directly at the eclipse, and to only use safe solar eclipse viewers or filters that meet international standard ISO 12312-2.
You are reminded not to use sunglasses, homemade filters, camera lenses, smoked glass, photographic or x-ray film, or other things that are not specifically made for viewing eclipses.
Staring at the sun without protection may cause solar retinopathy, which is damage to your retina – the tissue at the back of your eye.
HPPH also recommends keeping children inside during the eclipse.
