Bruce County taxpayers spent $317,000 on salaries and expenses of county councillors last year.
Warden Chris Peabody was paid the most — over $52,000 in 2023 — and billed more than $14,000 in expenses related to his work for the county.
Other county councillors who served the full year earned between $27,000 and $29,800. The remuneration earned by Bruce County councillors is in addition to their compensation as mayors of their respective municipalities.
The total spent on council salaries and expenses last year increased by about 15 per cent over 2022. A Bruce County staff report says it mainly related to mileage, as the county returned to full in-person meetings and conference attendance.
