The province’s Special Investigations Unit has closed a probe into a collision in Saugeen Shores and cleared police of any wrongdoing.
The SIU says on Nov. 2, 2023, a Saugeen Shores Police officer attempted to stop the driver of a car after noticing a damaged windshield.
But according to the SIU, the driver took off at high speed. The police officer initially pursued the car, but then disengaged.
The car ended up crashing head-on into a tree, resulting in serious injuries for the 20-year-old male driver and an 18-year-old female passenger.
As a result of the collision, the driver, a 20-year-old man, was diagnosed with a scalp laceration, hemorrhage of the right lung, and a broken nose. The passenger of the vehicle, an 18-year-old woman, suffered a fractured left femur.
The SIU report says the police officer came upon the collision, and acted quickly to offer help and call in medical assistance.
