Huron County Council got some insight into the region’s population demographics and how the population will affect housing projects for the foreseeable future.
According to the report, rental housing within the county is forecasted to account for an increasing share of housing growth over the next 30 years, while ownership households are expected to represent 57 per cent of housing growth between 2021 and 2051.
Part of the study also projected that approximately 20 per cent of households would also have difficulties being able to afford housing, based on the assumption that monthly rent or mortgage would represent 30% of a person’s monthly income.
Between 2021 and 2051, the study shows that the county’s housing base is expected to increase by 10,640 units, and it’s forecasted to be centered in Clinton, Exeter, Goderich, Seaforth, and Wingham.
