The village of Paisley is celebrating 150 years this weekend.
It’s been that long since the village was incorporated in 1874, and there will be events downtown to mark the occasion on Saturday, February 17th.
Arran-Elderslie Mayor, Steve Hammell says, “Paisley has a rich history rooted in agriculture and entrepreneurship. It has seen tremendous momentum since its incorporation in 1874. The rejuvenation, creativity and personality Paisley is known for, can be credited to a passionate and dedicated community of residents, business owners and volunteer groups. The Municipality is proud to be home to this vibrant community.”
Events are set to be held at the Treasure Chest Museum, the Paisley Community Centre, the Bruce County Public Library Paisley Branch, the Paisley Royal Canadian Legion, the Historic Hose Tower, and Orchard’s Landing.
Ross Street in Paisley from Church Street to Cambridge Street will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in order to host drop-in road hockey with the Paisley Fire Fighters from 1p.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be more events throughout the year to mark Paisley’s 150th year and the municipality says details will be shared on the Arran-Elderslie’s Facebook page or community calendar.
Street parking is available. Overflow parking is available at the Paisley Community Centre (391 Queen St. N), and the Paisley Freshmart (436 Queen St N).
