A local business owner is donating $20,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network.
A large cheque was presented to the network yesterday by Saugeen Shores resident and Owner of Tuggy’s Gas and Variety Darrall Wesley at the Brick in Owen Sound.
The network raises money and awareness for its 170 member hospitals who provide treatment for children.
Children’s Health Foundation Director of Community Relations and Children’s Miracle Network Jennifer Baxter says the donation was a surprise for them.
“We partner together with the government to help support the needs of our families and our patients. Not everything is covered by government dollars, so things like child life, art therapy, music therapy, they are all supported by donor dollars,” says Baxter. “And 95 to 100 per cent of the equipment that’s purchased at the children’s hospital is purchased by donors. This significant donation is going to go a long way to help kids not just today, but kids in the future as well.”
Wesley says he made the donation to help children like his son Zane, who was also at the cheque presentation.
“We use the hospital for my son Zane and they help us out a lot and I just wanted to give back to the hospitals and all the people that work there,” says Wesley.
The Brick yearly collects donations from customers to help support the local SickKids Hospital in London.
Brick Manager Sandra Johnston says, “the Brick has been partnered with Children’s Miracle Network, we are coming up on our 10-year anniversary, it is something that the Brick as a whole, they wanted to be part of something that would really help people.”
