The Township of Lake of Bays will be holding a public meeting about Short Term Rentals (STR’s).
The purpose and effect of some proposed amendments are to update the existing By-laws pertaining to STRs.
Specifically, the amendments will:
· Clarify how a Primary Dwelling is defined
· Permit one Short-term Rental in one primary dwelling per lot
· Permit a Short-term Rental in any zone that contains an existing dwelling (including existing legal non-complying and/or legal non-conforming dwellings)
· Amend specific development standards pertaining to minimum side yard setbacks for a Short-term Rental, whereby a Short-term Rental would be permitted in a dwelling with an existing legal non-complying side yard setback or previously reduced setback that received planning approval
· Permit the use of an existing sleeping cabin to be included as part of a Short-term Rental provided there is a maximum of one renter per lot and the septic system can accommodate the daily flow
