Northern Bruce Peninsula is applying for provincial funding to buy new drones for municipal operations.
Council approved applying for a Community Emergency Preparedness Grant for three drones during a meeting on Feb. 5 after a previous failed attempt.
This follows after Fire Chief Jack Burt gave a report to council in November regarding the grant.
A report from Treasurer Teresa Shearer says, “council agreed that drones would be an effective tool for first responders and could also be useful to other departments to assist with activities such as road and bridge inspections.”
Staff had previously submitted a grant application, but the province was not satisfied with the document to give approval.
This new $40,000 grant application, if successful, will cover the cost of a large drone, two smaller drones for training and emergency operations, and the training of staff.
