The Huron Newcomer Support Association is looking to help support newcomers to the region with a statement of support from council for finding ways toward permanent residence.
During this week’s council meeting, Halina Zaleski first thanked council for their support so far, and the support of local programs that help newcomers get settled in Canada and in Huron County.
Zaleski says that they are hoping that new resources can be found to help newcomers who are in the country on temporary visas to help secure permanent residence.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, 86 families have made the move to Huron County.
Organizations such as the Huron Newcomer Support Association have helped those families get settled, and volunteers have helped with finding jobs, learning English, and securing livelihoods for those newcomers.
