The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged nine individuals within four days with stunt driving in separate and unrelated occurrences.
Earlier in January 2024, on various streets within the Huronia West Detachment’s area, the Huronia West OPP Traffic Unit conducted nine unrelated traffic stops due to high rates of speeds well over the legislative limit for stunt driving. Eight vehicles ranged from 154km per hour to 166km per hour, and one of the individuals was driving 96km per hour in a 50km per hour zone.
The nine drivers each received a 30-day license suspension, are scheduled for court appearances at later dates, and the vehicles were impounded for 14 days.
Drivers and members of the public are reminded to respect our communities, comply with all laws, and not jeopardize the safety of our citizens or our neighbourhoods with risky, illegal, and dangerous actions.
The OPP remains committed to delivering on its Provincial Traffic Safety Program, which incorporates high police visibility, measurable outcomes, professional traffic stops, enforcement, and public education in their efforts to save lives on Ontario roads, trails, and waterways.
Anyone who witnesses unsafe driving or unlawful activity is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-301-1122 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.
