New residents to long-term care apartments in the county will be paying more rent starting in the new year.
The county has approved rent increases for incoming residents to Heartland Apartments in Clinton, and Highland Apartments in Brussels, which are attached to long-term care homes.
The new rent rates will be $1,300 for one-bedroom apartments, and $1,600 for two-bedroom apartments.
Existing residents currently pay $888.90 for a one-bedroom, and $1,082.30 for a two-bedroom unit.
There is also a $10 monthly parking fee plus HST for anyone with a vehicle.
The increase for new residents is based on operational costs, and is the first increase since 2008.
There are currently 174 people on the waitlist for both Heartland and Highland Apartments, with one-quarter of those on the waitlist requesting either location.
