The Township of Georgian Bluffs is recognizing its 2023 Volunteer of the Year award winners.
The township says this year, they are recognizing Kim Robins as the recipient of the Community Service Award and Danuta Valleau as the recipient of the Lifetime Volunteer Award.
Robins is a retired educational assistant who has dedicated over 20 years to volunteer work at Owen Sound District Secondary School. The township says she has participated in school food programs, and creative fundraisers, and going beyond the school to also contribute to providing respite care for families.
Valleau’s volunteerism covers a range of community programs, including the Climate Action Team, Earth Day events, and educating youth about climate change. She has also worked with the Alzheimer’s Society.
Mayor Sue Carleton congratulated both Robins and Valleau and thanked every volunteer to has contributed to the community.
“Your dedication, compassion and enthusiasm are what make Georgian Bluffs a vibrant and caring community,” says Carleton.
The Volunteer of the Year awards started in December, 2021 to honour volunteers who have made significant impacts on the Georgian Bluffs community.
Each award winner is presented with a certificate, and can choose a community organization which will be given a $100 donation in their name. Robins choose the OSDSS Food for Through program for her donation and Valleau named the United Way of Bruce Grey for her donation.
Nominations for the 2024 awards will open in October, 2024.
