Members from the Crime Unit of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing their investigation into an armed robbery which took place in downtown Collingwood yesterday.
On December 4, 2023, at approximately 3:20 p.m. front line members from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP were dispatched to an armed robbery at a business in downtown Collingwood.
Three suspects were observed going into a jewelry store discharging a firearm in the process and a short time later were observed fleeing the scene in a dark colored SUV. None of the store employees of the store were physically injured in the incident.
Officers obtained a description of the suspect vehicle, which had been reported stolen by Toronto Police Services, as well as information on last known direction of travel which eventually led to officers to locating the abandoned SUV in a field near County Road 124 and the 30/31 Sideroad just south of Nottawa.
At that point the ground search began with assistance from members of the Huronia West OPP, OPP Canine, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) as well as OPP Aviation Services and after several hours, all three suspects were apprehended without incident.
