The Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association will be seeing the benefits of becoming affiliated with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) in the new year.
OFAH Executive Director Angelo Lombardo says the association became fully affiliated in late summer.
“It’s been a few months since they made the decision. I think they are going to be ready to fully implement their goals in the new year,” says Lombardo.
He says the changes, which he expects will come into effect in the new year, includes $5 million in member personal liability insurance, lyme disease diagnosis insurance and the support of the OFAH.
“Being outdoor enthusiasts and the way lyme disease is spreading throughout the province, it’s peace of mind that they do have some coverage,” says Lombardo. “Having $5 million in excess member personal public liability insurance is certainly a huge benefit and that probably is the biggest benefit of being an OFAH member.”
He says the OFAH has been talking to the club for quite some time, and it only became right to join the OFAH recently, joining the Sydenham Sportsmen Association, which has been a member for many years.
“It was the insurance that was the driving force to them making the decision to switch and become fully affiliated with the OFAH,” says Lombardo. “We have roughly 725 affiliated clubs across the province that we are proud to say they are 100 per cent affiliated with the OFAH.”
The OFAH is an organization which aims to protect hunting and fishing heritage and lobbies on behalf of sportsmen and women.
“We are everything from fishing, fishing regulations, firearms, firearms policy, wildlife, wildlife management, the list is endless,” says Lombardo.
