Orillia has an affordable housing action plan.
It includes about 20 action items.
Among them, setting aside $100 thousand to help subsidize rents, using city owned land to build affordable units and setting up a youth transition home.
In longer term the city would look into converting Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital into affordable housing, once a new hospital is built.
Council has agreed with the plan in principle, but won’t commit any money to it until 2025.
