Bruce Power is planning on holding information sessions in the coming weeks as it looks into potential new nuclear generation.
While no decision has been made to advance Bruce C Project, which aims to provide up to an additional 4,800 megawatts of electricity for the province, the company has started the process to make sure all voices are heard.
This comes after Bruce Power notified the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada of its intent to start an impact assessment process for the expansion.
Bruce Power says as part of this process, early community, Indigenous and public engagement is a key component.
Bruce Power Chief Development Officer and Executive Vice-President of Operational Services James Scongack says, “we will achieve this by engaging people and conducting pre-development activities now so we can increase the certainty around supply options, learning from past challenges with large infrastructure projects for a better future.”
This potential project would support the province’s growing energy needs, while also helping meet federal and provincial carbon emission goals and achieve net zero.
Additionally, the company says the project would create and sustain high-quality jobs in the area.
Those interested in learning more can take part in the information sessions planned for Nov. 19 and Dec. 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
