Grey County will reduce the speed limit in Banks, a small settlement area in the Town of the Blue Mountains.
Last week, council approved proposed changes to speed limits along Grey Road 119.
A number of residents made a delegation to county council earlier this year, calling for a reduction of the speed limit, citing safety concerns for school children, cyclists and others.
Council supported recommendations to raise the speed limit to 70 km/h along most of the road and also to reduce the speed limit to 50 km/h in the community of Banks, which is located in the area of the 4th Line, east of Ravenna, not far from Blue Mountain Village.
Staff had initially recommended the limit be 60km/h in Banks, but Mayor Andrea Matrosovs argued a decrease in speed indicates to drivers there is something significant in the area and that families live in the area.
Staff say a bylaw will be brought forward to a future meeting to formalize the changes and new speed limit signs will be installed, likely early in the new year.
