Goderich Town Council will be holding a special meeting to review policies needed for moving forward with filling the vacant seat on council.
The seat for a councillor is open after Leah Noel was unanimously chosen by the rest of council to take on the role of Deputy Mayor during a closed to public session that was held during the regular council meeting on September 25th.
That leaves an open seat as Mayor Trevor Bazinet and Deputy Mayor Noel setting into their new roles, following the death of late Mayor Myles Murdoch.
Council was presented with different options to fill the vacancy.
A by-election would have been held similarly to a regular election for the open seat, but would have cost the town $14,000.
Council is choosing to take the option of receiving applications from interested residents who would like to be considered for the open seat.
Council will meet on Monday, October 23rd for the policy review so they can move forward with the endeavour.
