The Blue Mountains Resort is hopeful its slopes will be open by early December for another winter of skiing and snowboarding.
“Looking ahead to ski season, Dec. 7 is a date we can target to say we’ll be ready as long as mother nature is and historically we have seen average opening days around the middle of December,” says Public Relations Manager Tara Lovell.
She says they will do as much as they can to stick to this date but it also comes down to if the weather cooperates. They have, however, invested in new equipment, like snow machines, to help keep the slopes covered.
“Our snow operators are very used to things changing quickly and making sure that the goal is the same despite what the weather is and that is to have the ski hills open and running as long as possible in a ski season,” says Lovell.
Going into the season, she says they also plan to bring back major events both on and off the hill.
“We are definitely going to have the 24 Hours at Blue, that’s our overnight ski fundraiser for the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation and Special Olympics Team Ontario and that’s a fundraising event where people ski through the night, 24 hours in relay format or on their own to raise money for those causes. We are going to be doing events in partnership with Protect Our Winters, it is a non-profit organization that advocates for climate change, so we are looking forward to collaborating with them on events,” says Lovell.
She says for the other attractions like outdoor skating and tubing, they typically bring those out around the holiday season.
