The Municipality of Kincardine is one step closer to an agreement to provide water to the Bruce Power site.
During the September 13th council meeting, staff was able to provide an update on the agreement before it gets finalized.
Director Of Infrastructure & Development Adam Weishar says that both sides have been working toward an agreement that makes both sides happy.
“With water and wastewater services, those are typically user-funded, and paid at 100% to the benefiting property that is receiving that service.”
The agreement includes off-ramps that get the project closer to shovels in the ground. “If there are issues during a contract as well, there is verbiage in there in terms of how the stakeholders would manage those considerations also.”
There are also protections that if the design is completed, but either Bruce Power or the municipality isn’t happy, there is also the opportunity for either party to pull back.
Bruce Power will fund the project to connect to the system and pay for upgrades at the water treatment plant for the increase in capacity.
“We have deemed that from a technical perspective, it is feasible to bring them online as a customer, with modifications to our system.”
Council has recommended that staff enter into the agreement, which will be considered at the October 11th meeting.
