The Southampton Cenotaph Committee will be requesting budget approval for a new memorial monument.
At tonight’s council meeting, the committee will be sharing draft plans for an updated cenotaph on High Street, to either replace or enhance the existing cairn that has been in place since 1962.
They’re also hoping to have a more park-like setting surrounding the new monument, which they’re hoping will be added to the 2024-25 budget.
The new cenotaph would be taller and include bronze plaques that would list the names of soldiers.
The estimated cost would be $250,000 for design, creation, and installation.
