Goderich Town Council paid their respects to late Mayor Myles Murdock at the start of their meeting on Tuesday.
Mayor Trevor Bazinet gave an opportunity to each member of council to say a few words in honour of Murdock.
Each member of the council was able to share favourite quotes and their overall thoughts about the late mayor, who passed away on August 17th.
Councillor Liz Petrie also shared some words on behalf of Murdock’s widow, Cathy, which included a quote from late American singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett:
“[G]rief is like the wake behind a boat. It starts out as a huge wave that follows close behind you and is big enough to swamp and drown you if you suddenly stop moving forward. But if you do keep moving, the big wake will eventually dissipate. And after a long enough time, the waters of your life get calm again, and that is when the memories of those who have left begin to shine as bright and as enduring as the stars above.” ? Jimmy Buffett, A Salty Piece of Land
Meanwhile, a notice of motion was put forward to declare the Deputy Mayor seat of council open, following Bazinet’s promotion from Deputy Mayor to Mayor of the council following Murdock’s death.
There was also a discussion regarding the change during the closed session of Tuesday’s council meeting, but no further discussion was made public and no actions were taken by council.
