With kids returning to the classroom, expect more police presence around schools.
In Huron County, classes return Wednesday, following a Professional Development Day from the Avon Maitland District School Board, and Huron Perth Catholic District School Board.
Huron OPP Constable Craig Soldan says you can expect school buses to return to the area’s roadways, along with enforcement rules around passing them.
“If you see the red lights activated on the bus, slow down, let the vehicles behind you know,” Soldan tells Country 104.9 News.
Passing a school bus with flashing lights can mean a big financial hit, according to Soldan.
“The owner of the vehicle will be charged, and that carried a $490 fine, and six demerit points.”
With school returning, Soldan says OPP enforcement in school zones will also be ramped up for the start of classes.
“What we do is increase the number of officers in the school district,” Soldan tells us.
For students biking to school, Soldan reminds parents the children need a properly fitting bike helmet.
