Victoria Park in Kincardine will be host to the municipality’s Hindu Culture Open House this afternoon.
Chandra Tripathi, from the Swajan Samanvay Sanatan Centre, says that the event is a special way for people of different cultures to get to know one another.
“We are celebrating the richness of Hindu traditions, values, and practices, and it’s for education purposes to foster the bonding between communities,” he says.
Tripathi has been a member of the Kincardine community for 23 years, worked for Bruce Power as a engineer before retiring, and has spent the last 15 years engaged in inclusivity, and diversity.
“I think it’s a good opportunity to look at the diversity that we have because there is an extensive, interactive session where [people] can see and understand the various aspects of Hindu culture.”
The event runs from 2-6 pm and is a free event.
It also coincides with the celebration of the 75th Year of Indian Independence and Raksha Bandhan, which will also feature a small parade.
The event has free food, and a chance to take part in Yoga and meditation, interactive exhibits, art, music, and dancing.
There are also brief talks from people of different backgrounds.
The event is in collaboration with the Municipality of Kincardine, Welcoming Communities Grey Bruce, Bruce Power, Bruce County, and Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership (GBLIP).
