Grey County is going to consider supporting an updated Housing Action Plan this week.
The committee of the whole will be receiving the plan from Senior Planner Liz Buckton, which includes additional actions geared towards land use planning, policy and community development approaches.
“To support the creation of missing-middle units and near-market rate rentals, as well as home ownership units which are often referred to as ‘attainable’ housing, a range of planning, process, regulatory, and incentive-based tools are necessary,” says the report from Buckton.
The updated plan features a number of actions the county can take, including maintaining the Grey County Affordable Housing Fund, working with non-profits to create affordable housing and building local capacity for affordable housing creation, create supportive and transitional housing, and exploring funding models and tools to build affordable housing.
Programs and initiatives would be funded from existing budgets and implemented using existing staff resources. For any future or new initiatives, however, additional expenses may be needed.
Should the committee approve the updated housing action plan, it will be shared with municipalities in Grey County.
Council will be considering this item at its meeting on Aug. 10 at 10:15 a.m.
