Grey Bruce OPP are looking for local residents to join their database of security camera owners.
It’s part of the CAMSafe program, which would give police a resource to know who in the neighbourhood has security cameras, to help streamline their investigations.
OPP Constable Krista Linthorne says that residents submitting their contact information would help streamline police investigations.
“It’s a really effective way of assisting us, in locating where these security cameras are. So if there’s a break and enter at your residence, we will know what neighbours would have these security cameras.”
It also helps when local businesses with security cameras also take part, to help keep not only their business safe, but to be able to help out their neighbours as well.
She says that the purpose of the CAMSafe program is to have a database of private security cameras which includes residential and commercial properties to act as a resource for police to investigate crimes and suspicious activities.
In order to participate and be available to allow police to ask for your security footage, you need only to submit your name, address, and contact number.
“It does not give the police access to your camera, it just gives the location of where the camera is and who owns it.”
