The Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation is seeing the return of Greg Nadjiwon as Chief.
In results shared by Electoral Officer Vaughn Johnston, Chief Nadjiwon received 291 votes against incumbent Veronica Smith’s 218 on election day on Aug. 4.
Additionally, most councillors are returning to their roles, including Anthony Chegahno, Beverley A. Nadjiwon, Paul Jones, Norma Tobey, Arlene Chegahno, Carlene Keeshig, and Nick Saunders.
Randa Keeshig and Kathy Jones were defeated by Jessica Keeshig-Martin and Theron Solomon for the role of councillor.
Johnston says council will begin its two-year term this Tuesday Aug. 8.
He says while he does not have any comparison, he says the voter turn out yesterday was very steady.
“It was a steady flow of people throughout the day and overall it was a good turnout,” says Johnston.
A council swearing-in ceremony will be held on Aug. 8 at Cape Croker Park at 10 a.m.
