Northern Bruce Peninsula could see the development of 12 townhouse units for seniors in Tobermory.
The municipality held a public meeting on July 24 on the proposed change to alter the official plan to allow for the development of the townhouses.
Details on the proposed change for 18 Maple Golf Crescent were presented by Bruce County Senior Development Planner Jenn Burnett and Planning Consultant Ron Davidson representing owner of the property Adam Robins.
“The proposal is for 12 townhouses, there will be two buildings, each building will have six units in there. They will be designed for seniors, they will be one-storey, one bedroom rental units. They will range in size from about 84 square meters to 98 square meters,” says Davidson.
The proposal also includes possible future construction of an additional six unit building when full municipal services become available.
“Adam intends not only to construct the townhouses, because that is what he does for a living, he is also going to hold on to them and rent them out. In addition to a little driveway and a garage for each of the units, there will also be a small parking area for some additional parking for guests,” says Davidson.
Davidson says under a recommendation from Saugeen Ojibway Nation, an archeological assessment for the site is underway, and adds Robins would like to begin construction this fall.
Mayor Milt McIver says until the municipality has received comment from SON and the Ministry of Transportation, the proposal will be received for information.
