Chatsworth council is taking next steps in its site plan for a future multi-use community hub.
Council during its meeting on July 19 heard from the Chatsworth Hub Build Committee on three main priorities moving forward with the project at the former Chatsworth Arena property, near the Highway 6/10 split.
Committee Member Ian Eriksen says those priorities include establishing a connecting trail to the Rail Trail, as well as building a walking trail and memorial garden.
The committee also recommends retaining an environmental consultant to evaluate and present options for a connecting trail to the Rail Trail, and to retain a landscape architect for the walking trail and memorial garden.
The committee also included other items to consider at a future time, like an extra gravel area for potential parking and building a ball diamond.
Following discussion, council ended up approving a number of recommendations.
They approved greening the property, which will include removing stumps and some trees, spreading topsoil, and relocating hydro.
Additionally, they approved issuing a request for proposal for an environmental impact study to build a connecting trail to the rail trail, which all council approved through a recorded vote.
Chatsworth council also approved issuing a request for proposal for a landscape architect for the walking trail and memorial garden, which through also a recorded vote, was supported by three out of five council members.
The multi-use community hub facility itself has been at a standstill for a couple of years as the township awaits new grant opportunities to finance it.
