A public meeting about a proposed residential development is scheduled in Saugeen Shores Wednesday.
It will include the presentation of the development application to council and comments from the community and councillors
The proposed Southampton development west of Bruce Road 13 would include 14 single-detached homes and 15 townhouse lots along a new municipal road to be constructed.
A staff report to council says the subject lands are between Turner Street and Elm Street.
Staff note there are single detached dwelling lots to the west and north, wooded hazard lands to the east, and wooded open space lands to the south. The report says there are natural heritage features and natural hazards on or adjacent to the properties.
The staff report says the subject lands are designated ‘primary urban communities’ in the Bruce County official plan. They’re also designated residential in the Town of Saugeen Shores official plan.
Staff say of the public comments that have been submitted so far, some people are concerned the number of homes or density of the project is too high. They’re also concerned about increased traffic, devaluation of surrounding properties, impacts to drainage and water quality, sewage line capacity, noise, loss of green space and wildlife habitat, loss of woodlands and too much change in an established neighbourhood.
The meeting is set for Wednesday, July 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Rotary Hall at 600 Tomlinson Drive Port Elgin
Staff say, at a later date they will present a recommendation report which will also address comments arising from Wednesday’s meeting.
