The unemployment rate in the Grey Bruce region has decreased to 4.5 per cent.
The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says in June, the unemployment rate for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region decreased by 1.4 per cent. This is compared to the provincial unemployment rate, which increased by 0.1 per cent, now at 5.5 per cent.
While the overall employment size in the region remained the same in June, there were 400 full-time losses and 400 part-time gains last month.
The board says the region’s labour force size decreased from 167,000 people in May to 164,000 people in June. The population size not participating in the labour force also increased by 2,800. This brings the participation rate down to 60.6 per cent.
The number of goods-producing sector employees decreased in June by net 500. The utilities sector experienced the greatest loss this month, losing 1,000 employees, which was followed by agriculture and manufacturing. Construction is the only goods-producing sector which experienced gain this month.
Additionally, employment in the services-producing sector increased by net 500. Various services saw an increase of 1,700 employees, which was the greatest gain for the month. This was followed by accommodation and food services, and information, culture and recreation. Transportation and warehousing, however, experienced the biggest loss of the month, followed by educational services and health care and social assistance.
