U19
After a break last weekend, the Krueger Steel U19’ field lacrosse team, were back at it in Kawartha on Saturday.
Their first game was against Toronto Beaches and Owen Sound North Stars played as a team and came out with a 14-5 win.
Goals scored by Ryan Seaman (5),Aliviah McCall (2), Mya Good(2),Camryn Stauffer (2) ,Grace Smyth (1), Megan Cowan (1) and Ella McCoubrey(1).
The second game was against Oshawa.
North Stars played hard, but lost 11-0.
The U19 squad is back in action next Saturday when they travel to Orillia for their last regular season games.
U15
The Owen Sound Fire Fighters North Stars split a pair of games in Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse play in Peterborough on Saturday.
In their first game the North Stars lost to the #1 ranked Oshawa Lady Blue Knights by a score of 13-5.
London Doyle scored two goals for Owen Sound while Taryn Weppler, Leah Cooper, and Adalyn Jackson scored one goal each.
The North Stars beat the #5 ranked Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks 7-5 in their second game of the day.
Leah Cooper and Sarah Barfoot scored two goals each for the U15A squad while Camryn Laycock, Mya Good and London Doyle scored singles.
Next action for the U15A squad will be Saturday when the North Stars will travel to Orillia to play the #2 ranked Halton Hills Bulldogs and the #3 ranked Toronto Beaches.
The Lady North Stars, sponsored by John Shute Optometry, played two games of field lacrosse in Peterborough.
They won the first game against Mimico with a score of 14-6.
The U15B’s maintained a steady force with Goalie, Annabelle Evans, making many saves to help keep the strong lead.
Team goals were scored by Noelle Brewster (2), Addi McCoubrey (2), Leah Sundermeier (2), Jenna Cranny (3), Caitlin Tran (2), Ally Scott (1), Avery Thompson (1) and Megan Nissen (1).
Defensively, Paityn McKenzie and Emily Rourke gave a coordinated effort.
The U15B’s second game was a 14-6 loss against Newmarket.
Goals were scored by Noelle Brewster (3), Charlotte Fox (1), Ally Scott (1) and Lauren Neil (1).
Despite a strong effort on defence by Lauren Neil, the U15B’s weren’t able to match Newmarket’s goal scorers.
The team plays again next Saturday in Orillia.

The Ron Hopper Real Estate NorthStars won their first game against Burlington 11-9.
Goals for Owen Sound by Adele Ferguson (5), Lyla Doyle (3), Tessa Matheson (1), Atayvia Jackson (1) and Mila Minard (1).
In the second game Oshawa beat Owen Sound 17-11 loss to Oshawa.
Isla Nickel played well in goal while goals came from Mila (2), Keeva Fox (2), Sophie Burnett-Scott (2),Lyla (2) and singles by Molly Richardson, Adele and Tessa.
The Hopper Real Estate team will be in Orillia next weekend for the last regular season games before provincials.

William Byron surged past AJ Allmendinger into the lead on Lap 167 and remained out front until an accident caused the 7th caution of the evening on Lap 178.
With severe weather moving into the area, the sanctioning body called the race and made Byron the first four-time winner in the series this season.
The victory was Byron’s 2nd at Atlanta and the 8th of his career.
Sunday the NASCAR series moves to New Hampshire.

Race Information:
As per Triathlon Ontario, participants will be placed in the age category as per their age on December 31, 2023.
This event is fully sanctioned and insured by Triathlon Ontario.
All swims are in the Owen Sound YMCA pool. Life jackets are offered and available to all athletes.
All runs are on a fast flat 1km loop or shorter.
Helmets are mandatory! No exceptions!
Age group wave starts, youngest to oldest.
First wave at 8:30 a.m.
This event is NOT timed. Our focus is on fun and participation.
All participants receive a finishers medal, event T shirt, race kit, and post-race snack.
Bikes and helmets are to be in proper working order (parent’s responsibility)
Most of the bike course is on paved road within the YMCA parking lot. Some of it is on gravel. The entire bike course for all ages is closed off from traffic.

For all local racers: Friday August 25 4;00-8;00PM at Owen Sound YMCA (700 Tenth Street East).
For out of town racers: Saturday August 26 Owen Sound YMCA from 7:00 – 8:30 a.m.
If your child is in the 3-5 age group, and you are picking up their race kit Saturday morning, please arrive between 7 and 7:30am or they may miss their start time.
KITS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AFTER 8:30 A.M.

Course tours are highly recommended for all participants to familiarize yourselves with the course, distances and venue. Although our course has many volunteers to direct athletes, we highly recommend that you come for a tour on Friday, as there will be no course tours on our event day. Course tours are your chance to ask all of your questions and understand what to expect event day.
COURSE TOURS WILL BE OFFERED AUG 25 AT: 4:30pm, 5:30pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm by the Race Director. The entire parking lot of the YMCA will be open at the Centre on Friday August 25.
***Registration will close at 6pm on Wed August 23. It is at that time we’ll see how many participants we have. We then begin to schedule youngest to the oldest in waves with a maximum of 12 participants, with time in between each wave to keep things organized and course re sets for different ages. We cannot give you start times until you come to kit pick August 25. Please do not email in advance asking for start times. Thank you. ***

Parking for participants will be announced closer to the event. Please follow the signage.
Some of the parking lot race day will be used for patrons of the YMCA and some of the parking lot will be an active bike course. To ensure safety please obey all signage, barricades and volunteer instructions.
