A new report finds 11 per cent of children in Huron and Perth counties have skipped a whole day of meals, due to food insecurity.
The latest food insecurity report from the United Way of Perth-Huron’s Social Research & Planning Council (SRPC) surveyed 711 people from across the two counties.
Nearly a third of adults (32%) report cutting meal sizes or skipping meals over the last twelve months.
63 per cent of respondents also report having full-time employment.
To tackle food insecurity in Huron-Perth, the SRPC recommends:
- Promoting a living wage ($20.70 in Huron-Perth)
- Advocating for a basic income
- Advocate for an increase in Social Assistance Rates
- Increase accessibility to Food Programs
- Collaborate on Food Programs
