An early morning fire this past weekend has Owen Sound firefighters reminding residents to be careful when smoking.
A release from the City says Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fire in the 1600 block of 4th Avenue West at a triplex early Saturday morning.
Reacting quickly, crews contained the fire to the deck and family room of the affected main floor unit.
According to the City release, all units were evacuated at the time of the fire and smoke alarms could be heard ringing throughout the building.
The release says the fire, which started on the exterior, is believed to be caused as a result of smoking.
The city release says residents are reminded that smoking materials should be properly extinguished in a non-combustible container and should be cold and wet to the touch before disposal.
The release notes, smoke alarms are required in all new and existing dwelling units and need to be located on every level of your home.
They say in the event of a fire, close doors and alert occupants that a fire is occurring.
